On behalf of the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations, KEDC is hiring a support worker for their Child & Family Services Department. The ‘Na̱mima̱ Support worker will information from referrals from their supervisor Namima case manager regarding concerns about children’s wellbeing, and/or to support a family’s healing.
The Support Worker will contact all the parties that are to be invited in accordance with the principles of the ‘Na̱mima̱ meetings. The Support Worker will arrange for an Elder and other relevant support people and services to be present. The Support Worker will also help facilitate the meeting. Decisions will be recorded and communicated out to all relevant stakeholders. Follow up ‘Na̱mima̱ meetings will be coordinated by the Namima Support worker, as well.

- Connect with families, service providers, Chiefs, Elders, Ninogaad, Ninoxsa̱la, Matriarchs, MCFD, and any relevant stakeholders to discuss planning for children.
- Help coordinate and facilitate meetings with families, service providers, Chiefs, Elders, Ninogaad, Ninoxsa̱la, Matriarchs, MCFD and any relevant stakeholders to develop care plans, emergency plans, safety plans, etc., for children and to support family healing.
- Ensure cultural protocols are followed in meetings and all aspects of planning.
- Provide referrals to appropriate support services.
- Conduct follow up meetings with clients.
- Complete accurate and confidential records of all activities.
- Adhere to all approved standards, policies and procedures.
- Complete accurate and timely reports on all activities.
- Ensure services are delivered in a culturally appropriate and safe manner.
- To fulfill other related duties as directed.
- Diploma or Certificate of Social Work or Child & Youth Care, or equivalent combination of relevant Human Service education and experience
- Suicide Intervention training (e.g. ASCIRT, ASIST, etc.)
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in setting priorities and dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, professionalism and integrity.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (minimum Grade 12 English skills).
- Excellent Microsoft Office computer skills.
- Sound knowledge of the causes and impacts of trauma.
- Ability to facilitate and lead group processes.
- Knowledge of Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw cultural processes and protocols, and traditional family systems
- Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution.
- Experience with the Gwa’sala- ‘Nakwaxda’xw community and surrounding communities.
- Three years experience in community-based health/social service programs.
- Ability to develop strong working relationships with Aboriginal communities, families and children.
- Ability to develop strong collaborative team relationship with the staff serving the community.
