On behalf of the GALGAPOTHLA FAMILY SERVICES SOCIETY, KEDC is looking to add an experienced Senior Accountant to their team! The ideal candidate has 7+ years of accounting experience.

Reporting to the Director, the Senior Accountant will be a source of financial expertise, have strong financial analytical skills, and will be comfortable in a rural First Nations environment. The role is based in the beautiful municipality of Port Hardy, BC.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • General accounting including month end and annual closing procedures.
  • Preparing financial & operating statements across the Nation’s programs, services and projects.
  • Provide financial support to Program Area managers.
  • Preparing internal and external ad hoc reports, and financial analyses as required.
  • Record month end journal entries.
  • Prepare bank/credit card, AP/AR reconciliations and working papers.
  • Reconcile GL accounts.
  • Prepare HST/GST and PST returns.
  • Assisting in the design, build and maintenance of financial reports and shared folders.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of chart of accounts.
  • Responding to financial surveys, internal control, and external audit requests.
  • Supporting compliance with Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Recommending and implementing improvements to accounting systems and management practices.
  • Provide backup, as needed, for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll;
  • Other related duties as required by the Director.
Education and/or Work Experience
  • 7+ years of accounting experience.
  • Designated CPA or enrolled in a CPA or CFOA program
  • Experience working with Xyntax is an asset
  • Problem solving and decision making;
  • Critical thinking, paying attention to details;
  • Experience working in non-profit or fund accounting an asset;
  • Experience working with First Nations financial administration an asset;
  • Experience with the Microsoft suite of office products.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess a valid BC Drivers license.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a criminal record check.
