Cafe Worker

Kwa’lilas Hotel is looking for a cafe worker to join our team in Port Hardy, British Columbia. Located on the Northern end of Vancouver Island, Kwa’lilas Hotel is home to both the Nax’id Pub and Ha’me’ Restaurant.

The Café Worker is responsible for providing excellent customer service, preparing and serving beverages and food items, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, and supporting daily café operations. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications:
  • Previous café or customer service experience is an asset (but not always required)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask in a busy environment
  • Basic math skills for handling cash and transactions
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs
Responsibilities
  • Customer Service
    • Greet customers warmly and provide friendly, efficient service
    • Take customer orders and answer questions about menu items
    • Monitor, prepare and take payment of online orders
    • Process payments using POS systems and handle cash accurately
    • Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly

    Food & Beverage Preparation

    • Prepare and serve coffee, tea, specialty drinks, and other beverages
    • Assemble and serve food items such as pastries, sandwiches, and snacks
    • Follow recipes, portion guidelines, and presentation standards
    • Maintain product freshness and monitor stock levels

    Café Maintenance

    • Keep work areas, equipment, and seating areas clean and organized
    • Restock supplies such as cups, lids, condiments, and ingredients
    • Follow food safety and hygiene regulations at all times
    • Assist with opening and closing duties, including cleaning and inventory tasks

    Teamwork

    • Collaborate with other staff to ensure smooth café operations
    • Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and baristas
    • Support new team members with training when needed
