Kwa’lilas Hotel is seeking a Food and Beverage Manager to join our team in scenic, Port Hardy B.C. The Hospitality Manager is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of Kwa’lilas Hotel’s three food and beverage operations: Ha’me Restaurant, Nax’id’ Pub, and Kwa’lilas Café.

The ideal candidate for this position has experience in growing and developing new restaurants. The Food and Beverage Manager should be able to assist their team in food and beverage service as needed, while training and mentoring employees effectively to meet overall operational goals.

The Kwa’lilas Hotel is located in the traditional territories of the Kwakiutl people. Meaning “a place to sleep”, the “Kwa’lilas” hotel was named by the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw elders in hopes that guests may find peaceful rest after a day of exploration on North Vancouver Island.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage all Ha’me Restaurant, Nax’id’ Pub, and Kwa’lilas Café activities and ensure compliance to company standards and policies.
  • Assist in the planning and opening of Ha’me’ Restaurant.
  • Establish business plans by exploring avenues to increase sales and control operating costs; identifying and evaluating competitors; and preparing sales projections.
  • Work in tandem with Marketing to attract patrons and track changing demands.
  • Maintain operations by preparing, developing, and upholding standard operating procedures. Recognize and implement system improvements with approval from Food and Beverage Director.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction by monitoring, evaluating, and auditing, food, beverage, and service offerings. Initiate improvements as necessary.
  • Effectively lead food and beverage staff by upholding company values and providing mentorship as needed.
  • Recruit and train new employees in tandem with Human Resources, following company policies on recruitment.
  • Ensure employee certifications are up to date and filed; seek additional training opportunities for employees; work with Human Resources to develop the food and beverage team.
  • Uphold a positive working environment and seek opportunities to motivate employees.
  • Ensure employees are in compliance with the Kwa’lilas Hotel Occupational Health and Safety Program; prioritize OHS training and engage in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings; record all accidents and near misses.
  • Work with Supervisors to ensure optimal level of sanitary procedures for all food handling and work stations.
  • Ensure responses to all customer complaints and concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Food and Beverage Director, Assistant General Manager, and General Manager of Tourism.

Qualifications :

  • 2 years of proven experience as a Hospitality Manager or Similar
  • Degree in Business Administration, Tourism, or Hospitality Management considered a strong asset.
  • Industry standard certifications such as Food Safe and Serving it Right.
  • Ability to analyze data and trends, and create strategies for improvement.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and cover employee shifts if necessary
  • Strong project management capabilities

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary : $70,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
