Senior Accountant

K’awat’si Economic Development is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our team in Port Hardy, British Columbia, located on the northern end of Vancouver Island. The Senior Accountant will oversee daily account activities, internal auditing, budgeting, and reviewing reports. As well as assist the controller in managing both the short and long-term fiduciary activities of an organization.

** Please note that this position cannot be done remotely and requires relocation to Port Hardy, B.C.**

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with month-end closing and support financial related reporting to keep work flowing and meet deadlines
  • for operating company as well as related companies.
  • Prepare accounting related entries to numerous registers, journals, and logs.
  • Regularly maintain detailed reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts
  • Produce error-free accounting reports and schedules.
  • Analyze financial information and provide insight and trend analysis.
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
  • Provide support on ERP matters and look for efficiencies and best practices.
  • Posting monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
  • Special projects and other ad hoc duties as required.
  • Actively contribute to a clean, organized working environment
  • Maintain a positive attitude and work ethic, supporting other members of the accounting team.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 5+ years Technical and Management experience preferred.
  • CPA designation considered as an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting functions and requirements.
  • Good communication skills, problem solving and team work skills.
  • Ability to adapt, undertake multiple tasks and respond to changing priorities is imperative.
  • Possess computer skills, proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) is an asset.
  • Diplomacy, tact and confidentiality in dealing with a variety of people and information.
  • Exceptional knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting etc.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially excel) and accounting software.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Salary: $81,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
