KEDC is excited to have Gordon Roberts on board for an 8-week internship to help guide the Scenic Boat & Wildlife Tours with k’awat’si Tours! The internship is part of the Aboriginal ecotourism training program through Vancouver Island University and North Island College.

Gordon is part of the pilot program where participants travel once a month to different locations on the coast of Vancouver Island and spend 6-8 days in each destination learning about local ecotourism. The program is a combination of classroom time and field work, where students earn university credits and industry certifications. Their training will give them the skills needed for positions with resorts, wildlife tours, outdoor centres, and adventure camp programs.

Having spent his life on Vancouver Island, Gordon is a lover of the outdoors on both sea and land. He jumped at the opportunity to work surrounded by wildlife and the scenic coastal landscape, along with a great team of co-workers who work together to ensure the tours run smoothly. Gordon loves hearing about how guests have enjoyed their trips and sharing his knowledge to give them an unforgettable experience.

When his internship comes to a close, he hopes that he can continue his education both academically and in the field, and wants to pursue a career that will give him the experience he feels lucky to have right now. We’re thrilled to be a part of Gordon’s education and wish him well upon the completion of his training!
