k’awat’si Economic Development Corporation team excited to open hotel doors to the world

With just a few short months to go, k’awat’si Construction and k’awat’si Tours are working with our suppliers and partners to put the finishing touches on our game changing project, Kwa’lilas Hotel. The restaurant and pub have been redone from top to bottom, inside and out, as part of the exciting new beginnings of the property.

Executive Chef Jevon Thow has been perfecting the menu that will feature homegrown seafood from our own aquaculture program that will offer guests a casual fine dining experience and a delicious window into our world.

“The finish line is in sight and KEDC teams are not letting up. Kwa’lilas Hotel is coming alive with the art, décor and people joining our team including Scott Mercs, our General Manager who started this week,” said KEDC CEO Conrad Browne.

“I am always blown away by the diligence and skill of the people I’ve been working with every day to get this hotel off the ground, I know it hasn’t been easy! Thank you to everyone —construction crew, architects, designers, accountants, business advisors, hotel and tourism staff and many, many more —who all have worked tirelessly to find creative solutions when we were met with unexpected challenges.”

KEDC is now focusing on filling team positions with the specific skill sets needed to complete the construction of the hotel and to run services smoothly. On February 23, at Pier Side Landing, we are hosting a hiring fair to fill positions in the kitchen and restaurant, at the front desk, room and laundry attendants as well as housekeeping.

While we push through these final phases to finally reveal Kwa’lilas Hotel, we want to thank everyone for their continued patience and support of this project. Kwa’lilas Hotel is a huge undertaking and we cannot do it without the encouragement and confidence in our ability and all of our team’s hard work.

KEDC expects a soft hotel opening in March. Shortly thereafter, the restaurant will open, we will host business people for Aboriginal Business Match Vancouver Island in late March, and we will host a grand opening event in the late spring. In the meantime, we are continuing to work closely with our sister hotel, Pier Side Landing, to accommodate guests and tours.

If you have any questions about the hotel renovation and tour packages, please let us know through our tourism coordinator Davis Henderson at davis@kedc.ca.
