Human Resources Assistant

K’awat’si Economic Development is seeking a Human Resources Assistant to join our team. The Human Resources Assistant will provide administrative Human Resources support, with a focus on employee engagement and occupational health and safety. This position is best suited for an individual who is interested in gaining experience in the field of HR.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with community members and managers to plan and incorporate employee wellness incentives and events. Ensure internal communication for these events.
  • Oversee company wide internal communication lists, by updating and auditing employee contact information on multiple platforms.
  • Track employee birthdays, and send out congratulatory and birthday emails to employees across 8 companies.
  • Work with managers to incorporate employee incentive programs.
  • Assist in the recruitment of 8 companies under KEDC by pre-screening candidates, participating in interviews, and checking references.
  • Track and distribute industry specific certifications for the 8 companies (WHMIS, FOODSAFE, and Serving it Right)
  • Assist employees with Occupational Health and Safety Orientations. Ensure compliance to new and young worworkerss Work Safe B.C. Checklist.
  • Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee Meetings as needed. Assist in the writing and distribution of meeting minutes if necessary.
  • Send orientation follow-up emails to all new employees across 8 companies.
  • Work with building manager and HR Coordinator to coordinate employee accommodations and send out pre-arrival information. Stay abreast of available rentals in Port Hardy and send out email notifications to existing staff accommodation tenants.
  • Advertise and engage employees in company offerings and employee benefits.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Previous experience in an administrative position is considered as a strong asset
  • Currently enrolled in post-secondary education for Business Administration, Human Resources, or Human Services, or a Graduate of one of these fields.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel Word)
  • Comfortable learning and using multiple different web platforms (Survey Monkey, Mailchimp, Canva, Google Docs, etc)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbally

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $45,000-55,000 per year
